The best QB in the NFL has been taking out of the 2008 season with a serious knee injury in the first game of the regular season. What now? How far can the New England Patriots go this year without their captain leading their ship??? Will they even make the playoffs this year? I guess we will have to wait and see.

It's a very unfortunate lose for the Patriots, the fans, and the NFL in general. Tom Brady going down for the whole season has definitely opened up new life for a lot of other AFC teams to make a real run at the playoffs.

This should be a very interesting year in the NFL... I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome. What about you?

Now that the 2008 Summer Olympics are now past us, it's time to start focusing on the upcoming NCAA and NFL regualar season football, and I'm more than ready for it's arrival...

I do want to take a second and congratulate all the USA Olympic athletes for representing our great country during these 2008 Olympic games. Great Job! Our USA athletes brought home the most total medals overall with 110 and came in second in golds right behind China. All in all, our USA athletes handled their business in Beijing. Job well done guys and gals!!!

Now, are you ready for some football??? Hit the turf men!

8 was the number, 8 was what Michael Phelps needed and 8 was what Michael Phelps achieved!!! Speaking of the number 8, 8 is a lucky number in China... The Beijing Olympics were started at 8:00 o'clock on 8/8/08 and the biggest individual headliner in the Beijing Olympics now has gone, 8 for 8.

Michael Phelps has achieved the greatest feat by any individual athlete in any sport especially in the history of the Olympic games. Michael Phelps is now the sole owner of the most gold medals won in any single Olympic games in history with 8, passing Mark Spitz. Phelps has won an incredible 16 medals in his Olympic career and 14 of those medals are gold. Just unbelievable!!!

Michael Phelps swam in 8 races and won 8 gold medals with a little help of his United States swimming partners in 3 of those races while setting 7 new world record times in those races. Thank you for representing our great country of the United States of America with your awesome raw talent... Way to go Michael, job well done!

The unstoppable, unbeatable and unbelievable Michael Phelps has done it again... Phelps has just tied the 36 year old record set by Mark Spitz by winning his seventh gold medal in the Beijing Olympics. Phelps amazingly edged off Serbia's Milorad Cavic by 0.01 seconds to win the 100-meter butterfly in a nail biter while setting an Olympic record. The man is a swimming machine!!!

Make history Michael, win your 8Th and final race tomorrow for us and more importantly, yourself!!!

Well Michael Phelps is still in hot pursuit for the 8 Gold medal mark in Beijing after winning his sixth gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley last night and again in world record time... Six gold medals, six world records!!!! Wow! The six gold medals he has won in Beijing matches the six he won at the Athens Olympics 4 years ago. This feat Michael Phelps is pursuing is wrapping up to be something very special and exciting to watch for fans and Michael himself.

If I didn't know better myself I'd truly have to say that Michael Phelps has gills and a few fish fins to boot. Michael swims like a fish if you haven't noticed... He is so amazing in water that he makes anyone swimming against him in these Beijing Olympics look like they don't even belong there. He's that much better than the rest of the Olympic swimmers.

To top that off, yesterday in the 200 meter butterfly he raced Michael won that race as well setting a new world record and in doing so basically won the race with his eyes closed the whole time. Can you believe that??? When Michael jump into the pool at the beginning of that race his goggles started filling up with water and by the middle of the race he said he couldn't see anything. Wow, what an amazing feat he displayed!

So now Michael Phelps is in a league of his own leaving Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis in the dust with the most total gold medals by any single athlete in the Olympic games and with 3 more races to have a chance to collect more golds and complete his fabulous run at his record setting 8 golds in these Beijing Olympics.

This is so fun to watch and enjoy, so don't miss it!

Well I can't say enough about how great a swimmer Michael Phelps is... But I will say this about him today; yesterday he smashed the whole field of swimmers that raced against him in the 200 freestyle while setting a new world record and running for the record mark of 8 golds in a single Olympic games. No biggie for him right??? Phelps brought home his 3Rd gold medal of these Beijing Olympics and his 9Th gold medal overall, tying the Olympic record. So all Phelps needs to do now is win one more gold in the next 5 races he will race to set another record by winning 10 gold medals by one Olympian athlete. I can't hardly wait to see that happen, and it will happen, more than likely tonight.

I'm rooting for you Michael!!!

Michael Phelps and his 3 other swimming partners helped Phelps to continue on at the record setting gold medal mark of 8 last night in the 4x100 men's freestyle relay... One french swimmer was quoted saying that, "his team would smash the American swimmers in that relay". Well let me just say this; the American team finished on top in the end and won the gold... Eat your own words Frenchmen!!!

That race was a great one to watch and witness as the Americans showed the world that they have what it takes to win and not get intimidated by what someone said...

Michael Phelps has done it again... He just won his 1St gold medal of these 2008 Beijing Olympics and his 7Th gold medal of his unbelievable Olympics swimming career. Phelps needs to win 7 more gold medals to become the greatest Olympian swimmer in Olympics history breaking the total gold medal mark of Mark Spitz record of 7 gold medals in one Olympic game. He has many more races to achieve that mark. Michael just fell short at the 2004 Athens Olympics on tying Mark Spitz 7 gold medal record with 6 of his own. Now Michael Phelps is eyeing 8 gold medals at these Beijing Olympics to set a new gold medal record. Get're done Michael!!! The whole world will be watching...

"News Flash" Would have ever thunk it? Brett Favre is now a New York Jet quarterback! Maybe Favre will play for another 16 seasons in New York... Lol! Not a chance! I would love to see him succeed and do well for the short time he will be quarterbacking for the Jets though... I Just wanted to get you all up to speed on when and where the first NFL kickoff preseason game will be played and who will be playing in it...

The Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins will kick off the 2008 National Football League preseason in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, August 3 in Canton's Fawcett Stadium. The game will be televised on NBC's Sunday Night Football.

For those of you that are big time football fans, that would only be in just 11 days from now. I'm always looking forward to this time of season once the previous football season has ended... Football season could never come too soon for me.

Also for all of you fantasy sports buffs out there, it's time to start getting those fantasy football teams together and start competing. The time is drawing near... May the best man or woman win!!!

Triple A All-Star week update!

Well I just wanted to let you all know that I had a great 3 days worth of All-Star activities... The Triple A Home Run Derby was good but not great. It didn't even come even close to how great the MLB Home Run Derby was. For those of you that watched Monday nights MLB Home Run Derby, you know what I'm talking about. Two words; Josh Hamilton!!! The most total home runs in the Triple A Home Run Derby by one hitter were only 3. It goes to show you the caliber of talent and power from Triple A to the major leagues.

Anyways, Wednesday nights Triple A All-star game was quite boring up until about the 6Th inning. The Triple A All-Star pitchers were dominating the hitters on both teams for the first 6 innings which was why the score stayed at 0-0 up until the 7Th inning. That's when we actually started seeing the hitters move base runners around and eventually score. The 9Th inning was incredible for both team as far as the hitting was concerned, that's when most of runs for both teams were scored. The PCL (Pacific Coast League) scored all their runs in the top of the 9Th inning to take the lead and pull out the victory Wednesday night 6-5. The IL (International League) was leading 2-0 up until the top of the 9Th inning but couldn't stop the PCL from scoring 6 runs. The IL did make the game very interesting in the bottom of the 9Th inning when there was a 450 foot 2 run homer blasted over the center field fence making the game 6-4 but the IL fell short in the end. All in all the Triple A All-Star game was a success and great to watch in person.

I did get to sit and eat lunch with one of the All-Star outfielders at the luncheon I went to Wednesday afternoon. His name was Brent Clevlen and plays for the Toledo MudHens. The Toledo MudHens are affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. Brent Clevlen was called up to the Tigers briefly and played a game or two and then was sent back down to Toledo. It was nice to meet him and I hope he has big success in the years to come with either the Toledo MudHens and even better the Detroit Tigers or some other MLB team...

Also at the luncheon there was a special guest speakers, in which some of you may have heard of. He went by the title of, "The Golden Boy" The great Paul Hornung! A 1985 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee! Remember, the Green Bay Packers? He brought a great message to the luncheon and he's a wonderful inspirational man. That was a great and memorable luncheon I was able to talk part in.

One other thing I would like to share is that I was able to see the one and only, the mascot among mascot's, the famous one, The San Diego Chicken. He was at the game that night putting on a great show... Lol!!!

Completely Amazing!!!

Last night I was able to take part in witnessing history made with a spectacular showing of raw power and a sweet swing... Josh Hamilton who plays for the Texas Rangers put on an unbelievable show in last nights MLB Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium. Hamilton incredibly blasted 28 home runs in the first round of the Home Run Derby setting the new record for the most home runs hit in any round of a MLB Home Run Derby. Hamilton hit home runs totalling 2.36 miles in distance. His longest home run last night was measured at a whopping 518 feet. Wow! That's a long way to hit a ball... I wish I could do that!

The down side of Hamilton hitting 28 homers in the first round was the fatigue that caught up with him in the final round against Justin Morneau who eventually won the Home Run Derby 5-3. Josh Hamilton just ran out of steam. Too bad, I really wanted Josh to win it.

Even though Josh Hamilton couldn't pull off the Home Run Derby victory last night he will always be remember by the towering blast he smashed in the 2008 Home Run Derby and the awesome show he put on for the fans. Good for you Josh! In my opinion Josh Hamilton won the Home Run Derby this year... No question!!!(:

2008 MLB All-Star Game bound!!!

That's right, I'm dreaming! I wish I was going to Yankee Stadium in New York City to watch all those great all-star athletes playing in the MLB All-Star Game and also known as the "Midsummer Classic" this year. But I'm not! Instead I'll be going to watch the next best thing in that sport, and that is the Triple A All-Star Game right across the bridge from my home in Louisville Kentucky at Louisville Slugger Field in just two short weeks.

It's so great that Louisville is hosting the Triple A All-Star Game this year. What is even more great about that, is that I get to be there in person, and for free. Not only do I get to be at the Triple A All-Star Game, I'm going to be at the Triple A Home Run Derby and have a luncheon with the Triple A All-Star players as well. Did I mention all that is free??? Oh yeah, I did! So even though the Triple A All-Star game won't be as exciting as if I was at the MLB All-Star Game, I will still have a lot of fun in those three days leading up to the Triple A All-Star Game.

Monday July 14Th I will be watching the Triple A Home Run Derby. Tuesday July 15Th I will be eating lunch with the Triple A All-Star players and then come home that same evening and watch the awesome MLB All-Star Game on TV. Then on Wednesday July 16Th I will be entertained by the Triple A All-Star Game that evening. Those will be three exciting days in the world of sports for me. I'll take pictures and let you know how everything went after it's all said and done.

Oh by the way, Louisville's Triple A baseball team, if you don't know already are called the Louisville Bats and they are the farm team for the Cincinnati Reds.

A Cinderella did it!!!

The NCAA's Fresno State Bulldogs baseball team pulled off the unthinkable, unimaginable, and unbelievable last night by beating in a convincing fashion the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2008 college World Series to win their first baseball championship title for Fresno State University. The only other championship title that Fresno State University has ever won is when the woman's softball team won the title in 1998

The Fresno State Bulldogs made history last night by winning the college World Series. Fresno State was definitely a Cinderella team if there every was one in college sports. They made history last night in that they were the lowest seeded team to ever win a National Championship title in any college sport. Way to go guys!

The Fresno State Bulldogs played with heart and knew they could win the title all along, even when the rest of the country didn't think they could. Who would think they could win it all when they were the lowest seeded team going into the CWS (College World Series) tournament, right? I know I didn't! As much as I'm surprised they won the CWS I'm more surprised that they came back from a 1-0 deficit against Georgia to win two straight and steal the title. Only one other team has ever came back from a 1-0 deficit in the CWS finals series to win the title and that was Oregon State in 2006. So that say's a lot for the under dogged Fresno State Bulldogs. Which are now the Top Dogs!!!

Fresno State, which had a pre-tournament RPI ranking of 89, earned wins over No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Arizona State, No. 5 Rice, No. 6 San Diego, and No. 11 Long Beach State before ousting No. 8 Georgia to bring home the CWS National Championship.

Fresno State couldn't have done this without the awesome skills and power of their highly talented sophomore outfielder Steven Detwiler. During the Championship final games Detwiler went 8-for-13 with three homers, and nine RBIs setting championship finals records for hits, RBIs, homers and extra-base hits. His four hits he had last night also tied the single-game record. Detwiler did all that with a badly torn ligament in one of his thumbs. To say the least, Steven Detwiler was insanely awesome and was just what the Fresno State Bulldogs needed to win a college National Championship.

Now we all know that to win a Championship requires a whole team effort and that's what really happened, but I do believe without the hot bat of that one man Steven Detwiler then the Georgia Bulldogs would have been the CWS Champions instead. Say what you will, but I honestly can say that Steven Detwiler stole the show in the CWS finals games and he basically was a one man wrecking crew with a little help on the side from the rest of his teammates. At least for the finals games were concerned Detwiler was that!

What a great piece of college history I was able to witness last night. Well played Fresno State Bulldogs.

Beijing 2008!!! Here we come!

44 days and counting until the opening ceremonies of the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing will be underway. I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to it. I love watching both the winter and summer Olympics. It's a great and exciting time in sports.

I do feel that the United States will win the summer Olympics again this year. The United States just have so many great athletes in most of the summer Olympic sports to not win the overall medal count. I see the United States definitely bringing home a gold medal in basketball. That's really a no brainer on that prediction since we have so many great NBA stars playing in the Olympics for us in basketball. It's basically always been a dream team for the united States in that Olympic sport since the Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson era.

I also see the great swimmer in Michael Phelps winning a few Gold medals for the United States again and maybe our woman's gymnastics team winning another for the United States. So on and so on!

The United States have won more medals at the summer Olympics than any other country, with a combined medal count of 2,189. Wow, that's a lot of medals. 895 gold, 692 silver, and 602 bronze, and I see our athletes winning a lot more for us this summer.

For those of you that don't know, the Summer Olympic sports consist of, archery, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, handball, judo, modern pentathlon (shooting, fencing, swimming, show jumping, and running), mountain biking, rowing, sailing, shooting, soccer, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field, triathlon (swimming, biking, running), volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, and wrestling. Man that was a mouthful of sports to type!!! I wore out just typing the sports! Lol!

Well I'll talk more about the Olympics when they get underway. Go United States!!! Win, win, win!

The price of injury...

The good and the bad!!!
Tiger Woods is arguably the best golfer that has ever tied on a pair of golf shoes and picked up a golf club and he has accomplished this feat at the young ripe age of just 34. Tiger has accomplished so much and won so many tournaments that I would be here all day listing them to you. So I won't! Just know that he's the best... If you don't believe me just take a look at his golfing history on a Google search.

Tiger Woods started playing golf at the young incredible age of just 3 and won his first golf tournament at age 8 when he won the Optimist International Junior World. He then won that same tournament at age 9, 12, and 13 as well. From age 8 till now Tiger has just exploded into the PGA world. He seems to just keep getting better and better by each tournament he plays!!!

There's one problem that stands in Tiger's way though. The problem is that with his awesome incredible talent comes his humanity and weakness, his body. Unfortunately Tiger's body is letting his raw talent down in a very realistic way. The world's NO. 1 golfer revealed that he has been playing with a torn ACL since last July and will sit out the rest of the 2008 PGA tour season after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.

Just a few days ago Tiger Woods painfully triumphed to a playoff win in the U.S. Open bringing home is 14 career major trophy despite playing 72 holes in regulation and 19 more in the playoff with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and a double stress fracture of his left tibia. Now that's determination!!! Tiger is so good he can play and win in pain.

With Tiger sitting the rest of the season out comes an ill effect for golfs viewer ratings for sure. Many people just watch golf to see Tiger work his magic and I'm one of them. So for Tiger to not be playing is very sad for the golf world. Period...

Hey, but there's something to look forward to, and that is, Tiger said he will be back next season. yippie!!! We only have to wait like forever it seems for next year to come. Great! Until then, golf will be playing and not many watching. Bummer!

This Tiger Woods incident is definitely a big blow to the golfing world hands down...

Boston, we did it!!!

Yeah that's what Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, the Finals MVP Paul Pierce and the rest of the Boston Celtics squad are saying to the NBA and the rest of the world.

Last night the Boston Celtics put a whooping on the Los Angeles Lakers and stomped a mud hole in them beating the Lakers by a ridiculous margin of 39 points. The 2Nd largest victory in Finals history. The Celtics were able to win the 2008 NBA Championship by a lopsided 4 games to 2 in front of their home fans bringing back to Boston for the 17Th time, the NBA Championship trophy and completing the dream season for the Boston Celtics. Also completing my earlier prediction that they would win the NBA Championship this year. Way to go Boston Celtics!!!

Paul Pierce was brilliant throughout the Finals series and eventually snatched up his first NBA Championship and MVP at the same time. What else could you ask for in one season? Paul Pierce averaged just over 21 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds a game during the Finals. Needless to say Paul Pierce was stellar and definitely deserves the MVP trophy.

Now the other two all-stars for Boston, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen were great as well. The Celtics had a awesome trio this year that couldn't be stopped throughout the regular season and as we seen, the playoffs. Ray Allen finished last nights game with a Finals tying 7 three pointers and Kevin Garnett was his usual greatness.

To end the NBA season with the Championship trophy is what all the NBA players are working for throughout the season, so to win it is a great accomplishment.

As far as the Boston Celtics are concerned, I'm sure as long as they have a healthy Paul Pierec, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen on their squad then they are looking to repeat next year and the followings as well. I could see it, can you???

THE NBA SHOWDOWN, AGAIN!!!

Well as you can see and as I predicted weeks ago, the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers will be battling it out in the NBA Championship finals for 2008. It's been a tough road for both the Celtics and Lakers to get to the Finals but they both proved that they belong there by knocking off their recent conference opponent's in convincing fashion. The Celtics handling their business in 6 games against the Pistons and the Lakers smashing the Spurs in 5 games.

This will be the first appearance in the Finals for the Boston Celtics since they lost the series against those all time rivalry Los Angeles Lakers in 1987. Then Larry bird, Danny Ainge, and Kevin McHale couldn't withstand the offensive power of the Lakers squad of Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy.

This years Finals meeting will be the 11Th Championship match up between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers with Boston winning 8 of its NBA-best 16 titles against the Lakers. But the Lakers won their last two Championship meetings against Boston in 1985 and 1987. The Los Angeles Lakers have brought home 14 NBA titles of their own. Not to shabby, if I say so!!!

This years Championship finals will have the same two franchises but will bring on a new era of players. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, Boston's three All-Stars, are all in the Championship finals for the first time in their great careers. Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom will lead the way for the Lakers in this great upcoming battle of two power house NBA teams. Kobe Bryant help lead the Lakers to three straight titles from 2000-02, so needless to say Kobe is experienced in these situations. One up for the Los Angeles Lakers having Kobe on their team.

So after all said and done, my earlier prediction still stands. I do believe that Boston will pull it off this year. It will be a hard fought battle, but the Celtics will prevail in the end. I will say this though, if the Lakers do find a way to pull it out instead, I won't be sadden by it because the Lakers have been my favorite team since I was a kid watching Magic Johnson and the crew win those Championships in the 80's.

Thinking About Christmas, Already!

A couple years back, when I was thinking about what Christmas gifts to buy for my children, I ran across an ad for KB Toy Stores and they were selling action figures for less than half of the price that they normally go for. The sale started at 5 am and we were there waiting with all the other serious Black Friday shoppers. Don't know what Black Friday is? Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when all the stores open their doors early for the official first day of Christmas shopping with the hottest sales of the year. Stores literally drop prices so low that you just want to be there to get a hold of some of those great deals. You have seen those walmart ads that show up in your mailbox the week before Thanksgiving with the great deals if you get there in line by O'dark thirty, haven't you? Of course you have. So back to my action figure story. We picked up a ton of these figures for our boys and spent very little money. They were a hit! The kids loved them and they had an entire collection of them.

This year, I will be looking for the ads from the sporting good stores. I'd love to be able to get them some items to promote their interest in sports!

Big Brown!!!

No, I'm not referring to UPS! I'm referring to the awesome racing horse in Big Brown. I'm sure you have heard about him by now. Big Brown is the young thoroughbred racing for the Triple Crown in the upcoming Belmont Stakes race on June 7Th. After Big Brown won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in convincing fashion he has now captivated the horse racing world and all eyes are now on the arrogant horse.

Big Brown took charge in the first race of the Triple Crown in Kentucky and won by 4 3/4 lenghts then triumphed his way to win the Preakness by 5 1/4 lenghts. He looks unstoppable, unbeatable, and is showing no signs of letting up either. We have the true making of a Triple Crown winner in Big Brown this year. Many other horses have given the Triple Crown a run for it's money in recent years but have fallen short in the end. The last Triple Crown winner takes us all the way back 30 years ago to 1978 when Affirmed won the crown.

The horse racing world is in dire need of a hero this year and Big Brown could be our hero. I would love to see the young horse pull it off myself. Horse racing is over due for a Triple Crown winner. If I were to put my money on the horse to win the Belmont Stakes this year, I would definitely and no question place it on Big Brown, hands down. I wouldn't want to bet against him that's for sure. Would you? I truly believe Big Brown knows that he will win the crown this year just by the way he flaunts his power. Big Brown doesn't want to lose and he has what it takes to win every race he races.

It will be a breath of fresh air to see Big Brown cross the finish line with the rest of the pack collecting his dust on their faces. You know, we may very well be witnessing the most talented horse that has ever raced for the Triple Crown this year in Big Brown, so don't miss it.

The Green Machine or the James Machine???

Sorry I haven't been posting in a couple of weeks now but life gets in the way sometimes, I'll do better.

With the series tied 2-2 going into Boston Wednesday evening who will come out victorious? The Green Machine of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen and the Boston Celtic or the other Machine, King James and his troops? Well the critics would say that the Celtics will be on the winning end of that evening especially since they are playing at Boston. But I will say, that if LeBron can get some offensive help then the King James train will upset the Celtics and their fans Wednesday night.

Needless to say this Cleveland and Boston series has been very entertaining to watch. Even when LeBron is having a bad shooting night he still looks good doing so. LeBron when having one of his under par nights is still better than well over half of the players in the NBA on their good nights. That's a fact... The Celtics have been able to subdue LeBron for the most part since the series has been underway but they won't be able to keep a good man down for long. LeBron has only scored a high 21 points in 3 of the 4 games he has played against Boston and the first game they played against Boston he was only able to muster up 12 points. So that being said, LeBron is well under his season average of 30 points per game. But like I said, Boston won't be able to keep a good man down for long. LeBron will reach his 30 point season average and probably more before this series is finished and Boston better watch out when that happens.

Now do I believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers will win the series against the Boston Celtics? The answer to my own question is, not a chance. Only because the Cavaliers do not have the supporting cast that the Celtics have. It's LeBron James and the rest of the team for the Cavaliers verses Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and the rest of the team for the Celtics. So really that's a no brainer on which team will eventually prevail in the end. Plus the fact that the Boston Celtics will be able to play game 7 at home if the series is played out to it's entirety.

But who knows, there could be an upset brewing in the 2008 NBA playoffs this year. We will just have to wait and see...

The three other playoff games are well underway also. The Lakers and Jazz, and the Hornets and Spurs series, are also tied 2-2 while the Detroit Pistons have a demanding lead against the Orlando Magic 3-1.

All in all the playoffs this year have been very good. My prediction for the 2008 NBA Championship game will have to be the Boston Celtics verses the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics will win the Championship this year in 7 games. It will be tough for the Celtics though.

Blue 52, GREEN 47, SET, Hike!!!

Today is the day of all days, the draft among all drafts, for the sports among all sports. In just 6 hours the 2008 NFL draft will get underway. I'm so looking forward to it myself. I enjoy seeing where the all star collage players will be drafted and by which team they will be joining this coming NFL season.

Collage elite players such as DL Chris Long, RB Darren McFadden, QB Brian Brohm, DL Glenn Dorsey, DL Vernon Gholston, DL Sedrick Ellis, QB Matt Ryan, OL Ryan Clady, LB Keith Rivers, CB Leodis McKlevin, RB Rashard Mendenhall, and LB Mike Jenkins are just a few of the elite collage players that will be seen in the draft today. These 12 players should be some of the top 12 off the board today in the draft, possibly even in that order.

OL Jake Long would have been thrown in that top 12 mix but the Miami Dolphins drafted him #1 overall even before the draft began and signed him to a multi-million dollar contract of $57.75 million for 5 years, complete with a hefty $30 million guarantee. The deal was done last Tuesday, four days before the draft. The great collage offensive tackle will become the highest-paid lineman in the NFL. Yeah, you could say there will be high expectations for him this year. Great lineman are hard to come by and more importantly, good and not so good lineman can make or break your team. Jake Long is favored to make the dolphins in that area rather than break them, that's why they signed him with that ridiculous contract already.

It will be interesting to see how everything pans out in the next two days during the draft. How some teams will favor well and some not so well. Hopefully my 49ERS will be more on the favor well side, but I'm not holding my breath with them.

I recently went on board with a money making website called payperpost. I was looking for something to blog about while making money at the same time and soon received this information about payperpost. Someone introduced my wife to the payperpost site and in turn my wife introduced me to the payperpost site also. I'm so new to this blogging stuff that I hope to be introduced to some new friends through this site. I do know that it will be nice to make money while sitting on my couch watching sports on TV and pushing keys on my computer.

RUMBLE IN KENTUCKIANA!

This post will not have anything to do with sports but I just felt I needed to write about it. At 5:37 this morning we were struck by a magnitude earthquake of 5.2 on the Richter scale in the Kentuckiana area, which means the northern Kentucky and southern Indiana area. Earthquakes are very rare in this part of the region but not impossible to happen as we witnessed this morning.

I was rudely awakened by a fairly loud noise and suddenly I realized that the house was shaking. Right away I said to myself that we are having an earthquake. I was contemplating waking my wife to tell her but she was just sleeping to soundly so I decided not to disturb her. I would just let her find out about the quake when she woke up. The rumbling lasted for about 10 seconds and I continued hearing echoes of rumbling noises in the distance outside my bedroom window a little longer.

The quake made me feel a little uneasy for a moment but that was short lived once the rubbling stopped. There was no damage to our home, and as far as I have heard from the news stations, the quake didn't leave any injuries along the way. Just some minor damage to some buildings in Louisville Kentucky was the stint of the earthquakes anger around here.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in West Salem Illinois which is around 157 miles west from my home here in Jeffersonville, IN. There has been six aftershocks felt from this quake so far. The aftershocks ranged in magnitudes of 2.0 to 2.5 but there was one aftershock that will probably have geologist curious with an unusual number, it registered at a whopping 4.5 magnitude this morning.

Well, I thought that this would be a worth wild topic to post this morning, so I'll get to sports later. We all need to remember one thing about this though, and that is, that God is always in control.

Even though this post wasn't about sports I'm still going to say this one thing just to make it right; Through earthquakes and rain and through snow and ice sports still live on...

THE COLD WET BALL GAME!!!

Well, as you can see I haven't posted in a few days, I've been pretty busy, sorry... My mother came to live in Indiana with us from California. I haven't physically seen her in 10 years, wow, what a long time that is. Shame on us!!! Anyways I just wanted to post these cool pictures of the Cincinnati Reds baseball game I took my sons to a couple of Friday nights ago. Other than the weather being a mess that night, the game was good. Pat Burrell hit a monster home run about 20 feet to the left of where we were sitting and the guy that caught the home run was a Reds fan so he threw the ball back onto the field, that was funny, and the man, Chase Utley, also jacked 2 homers over the fence himself that night in a Phillies win over the Reds.

The weather was so bad before the game that night that there was an hour and a half rain delay. Not to forget to mention that it was also really cold. So needless to say, between the four of us being wet from the rain added with the cold temperature we were somewhat miserable while watching the game, but we made it through it. Burrrrr!!!!

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWKS!!!

Yep, they did it, the Memphis Tigers blew it and the Kansas Jayhawks won the 2008 men's National Championship last night in a thriller comeback. One of the best comebacks, in I would say, sports history. The Memphis Tigers realistically should have won the Championship but it's not over until the last horn blows and the Kansas Jayhawks prevailed once that horn blew. The Memphis Tigers gave the Jayhawks all they wanted in that game as I expected. I could also say that the Kansas Jayhawks gave Memphis all they wanted, but more. I was happy to see the game a competitive game all in all. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see all the comeback and eventual win by the Jayhawks in overtime last night because I had to pick my mother up from the airport during the last 5 minutes of regulation and into overtime. I haven't seen my mother in 10 years, so I would say that picking up my mother was definitely more important than seeing the end of that exciting game last night. Yes, I would have loved to see the Jayhawks comeback from a 9 point deficit with 2:12 left of the game but I had to do what I had to do. Bummer for me missing the end!!! All I know is when I left for the airport Memphis was winning.

The way I found out who won before I got home was because, well, remember my sister Star that I told you in my last post was a die hard Jayhawks fan, yeah she called me and rubbed it in. She yelled out, "Rock Chalk Jayhawks baby!!!" I'm happy for her, now that March Madness is all over, I'm glad her team pulled it off. Way to go Star and Kansas Jayhawks for winning your 3RD National Championship in school history.

Now, Kansas Jayhawks, find a way to keep coach Bill Self there at Kansas. PAY HIM!!!

I'M NOT PERFECT!!!

Please pardon my unpredictability!!! I guess that is what makes me human... I'm talking about me predicting that the North Carolina Tar Heels would win the NCAA men's National Championship this year. Yeah I just didn't get it right, or I could say that the Tar Heels just didn't play up to their potential last night. All I can say about the game last night is this; the North Carolina Tar Heels got an old fashion butt whooping handed to them last night.

The Kansas Jayhawks battled an (arguably) more talented, harder-working and flat out overall better team, so it seemed up until last night. The Jayhawks reversed the script on the Tar Heels last night by becoming what the Tar Heels were all season long to other teams. The Jayhawks out worked the Tar Heels, out hustled the Tar Heels and just obviously out played the Tar Heels last night. The game was a miserable blow out most of the first half and in the second half when the Tar Heels tried to make a historical comeback the Jayhawks kept their composure and just played along and eventually wore down the Tar Heels. The Tar Heels unfortunately dug themselves in a deep hole they couldn't climb out of, it's as simple as that.

Well I suppose that I'll sum it all up with this; the Kansas Jayhawks were the better team last night and they are moving on to play the Memphis Tigers in Monday night's National Championship game.

I do want to point this out to you all though, I did say something in one of my previous posts right before I said I'm going to pick the North Carolina Tar Heels to win the National Championship this year, and that was, that the Kansas Jayhawks would be my second pick to win it all this year, so I guess I'm not completely in left field about who might win it all. Give me a little credit!!!

Yeah I'm going to root for the Kansas Jayhawks Monday night and see if they can win the National Championship for the first time since 1988. I just think they have what it takes, especially the way they are playing ball right now. I do believe we should expect to see a very competitive game though, because the Memphis Tigers are not going to be push around, at least they shouldn't, unless they play the way the Tar Heels played last night. I don't think that will happen though.

My sister Star is soaking it up right now I'm sure, she lives in Kansas City Missouri and she loves the Jayhawks so at least I know there is one person out there that is jumping for joy right now and will be even more when the Jayhawks are National Champions Monday night.

Way to go, win it all, Rock Chalk Jayhawks!!!

NHL, WHERE ARE YOU???

It was brought to my attention today from my brother Paul that I haven't wrote anything about the National Hockey League on my blog yet. Well he was right, I haven't. I haven't for two reasons, the first being that I have been preoccupied with March Madness and MLB beginning, and the second, well unfortunately hockey is my least favorite sport to watch and or talk about. I just haven't been able to really get into hockey throughout the years. Now don't get me wrong, I do think hockey is an awesome sport and it is very interesting to watch, as long as you know the rules of the game, I should say. OK, I guess it's enjoyable to watch even if you don't know the rules. If you don't watch hockey for anything else, at least the fights are always entertaining.

I don't think that I'm alone though when it comes to hockey. If I were to take a poll on how many people really keep up with the NHL I'm sure that the numbers would be something like this; 85% for not really, verses, 15% for all the time. It's just a sport that isn't really loved or followed by many, I do know that. There are just too many baseball, basketball and/or football games on to watch rather than watching hockey in my opinion. Hockey for me, takes 4TH place after those other 3 main sports. Sorry, some people really love it, like my brother, but for me, I just haven't been able to get into it. That doesn't mean that it's any good, it just means, that I don't follow it. Plain and simple!!! But since this is a sports blog, I thought that I should say something about the NHL just to make it right. Right???

I guess I just haven't allowed myself to really get to know the sport much for whatever reasons and haven't given the NHL it's chance to take me captive. I'm sure that I've been missing something really great. Maybe this is the time to give hockey a chance and see where the NHL takes me. Thanks bro for enlightening me on hockey.

Even though I'm a sports guru nut, there are limits I suppose. Hockey as you can see, by what I've been writing thus far tonight, has obviously been mine. I do know one thing though, and that is, the NHL will be ending their regular season in 5 days and the playoffs will be starting. That's about all I can tell you about the NHL for this year. Maybe I'll be more up on hockey by this time next year and be able to give you all some good advice. I hope!

So anyways, don't hate me for being behind in the realm of hockey, just chalk it up as, different strokes for different folks...

THERE'S A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING!!!

Well they did it, all 4 #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four for the first time in the men's history of the NCAA tournament. UCLA, North Carolina, Memphis and just now by the skin of their chiny chin chins the Kansas Jayhawks. I picked it, all #1 seeds to advance to the Final Four and they did it. The Cinderella team finally lost her slipper and got beat!!! Kansas fans, you can now breath easier. For a moment! The great and mighty Tar Heels are next. The Davidson Wildcats unfortunately missed a game winning 3 pointer in the last seconds of the game to advance to the Final Four and pull off the miracle upset and beat the Kansas Jayhawks. What a shame! I sure wanted to see one of the biggest upsets in tournament history tonight, but the better team prevailed. Barely!!!

Way to play you no name college of Davidson College!!! Stephen Curry played a excellent game as usual and finished with a respectable 25 points. Little Curry Mighty Mouse almost got Davidson to the Final Four. He's a baller!!!

So, this years Final Four is going to be a great one. Four power house teams battling each other next weekend. Don't miss it or you will regret it.

Go North Carolina Tar Heels!!! Win it for me!

NOT MARLBORO TIME BUT HANSBROUGH TIME!!!

Tyler Hansbrough is a machine!!! He is the player that every coach wants on his team. Hansbrough is a scorer, rebounder, and a right out hustler. Hansbrough is always active in every play and plays with more will than skill and his skill is awesome. Nothing lacking in that department! Hansbrough wants to be the best on every play and wants to improve with every game. Hansbrough is powerful, sleek and meek all at the same time. Hansbrough is the player among players and a basketball player all our children try to mimic and choose as their idol.

Last night Tyler Hansbrough lite up the Louisville Cardinals for 28 points and 13 rebounds. Hansbrough has scored at least 20 points in every game this year. He's incredible! He's a scoring machine! Every time the Louisville Cardinals made a push to get back in the game against the Tar Heels last night Hansbrough would put their flame out and score a bucket, grab a rebound or make a great defensive play. Hansbrough was everywhere last night. When you least expected it, Hansbrough was there. I can't really tell you how good this man is playing basketball, you have to just watch him and find out for yourselves. Watch him play a game and you will see what I'm talking about. Tyler Hansbrough is and will lead this year's North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team to another National Championship, their 2ND championship in 4 years.

Yes, I'm sad, my Louisville Cardinals both the men's and woman's basketball teams were swept against their respective contenders, the North Carolina Tar Heels yesterday. How weird and what a drag! I do want to say that I'm a little disappointed that my Louisville Cardinals couldn't pull out the victory last night against those Tar Heels but also satisfied that my prediction for the Tar Heels to win it all still stands for the moment. More than likely the Tar Heels will be facing the strong Kansas Jayhawks team in the final 4 next weekend but that is yet to be official until Kansas can finish Davidson today.

RED ALERT, RED ALERT!!! Just in!!! It's official, I've found the Cinderella team this year!!! The Wildcats of Davidson College have victoriously become the Cinderella story of the 2008 men's NCAA tournament by first clawing their way through #2 seeded Georgetown and upsetting #3 Wisconsin tonight. Davidson's men's basketball squad has managed to put together the nations longest active winning streak in college basketball with 25 games in a row and advance to their first regional final since 1969.

The Davidson Wildcats have a star that hasn't even been heard of until this NCAA tournament. He has managed to step his game up and show off his all star talent to the world in the first 3 games of the tournament. Many people have never heard of him and certainly didn't think he could lead a basically unknown college to the Elite 8. This young man I'm referring to is Sophomore guard Stephen Curry son of former NBA player Dell Curry. Stephen has been a scoring machine so far in the tournament posting 40 points against Gonzaga, 30 against Georgetown and 33 tonight against Wisconsin. Now that's being a beast!!!

Since the NCAA tournament began seeding teams in 1979 only one other player has had a higher average in a single tournament than Stephen Curry's 34.3 and that's Bo Kimble of Loyola Marymount University with an average of 35.8 in 1990 when his Lions ran to the Elite 8. Stephen Curry is an upcoming star and is going to produce well at the next level in the NBA soon enough. Look out NBA, a young star is coming, keep your eye on him!!!

Well this coming Sunday is going to be the test of the tail for Stephen Curry. Will he be able to post those kind of numbers against the talented defense of the Kansas Jayhawks? That is yet to be seen, but if he does, watch out Jayhawks you may be the biggest upset story for the men's 2008 NCAA tournament. Truthfully though, for Davidson to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks it will definitely take Curry having to score 35 to 40 points in the contest to make that happen, and still then the miracle would have to accrue. Kansas is just too strong on both offense and defense for Davidson to keep up in my opinion. But I would love to see the unbelievable! Pull it off Stephen Curry and the Davidson Wildcats!!! Beat those Jayhawks!!!

SWEET VICTORY!!!

Last night my favorite collage basketball team the Louisville Cardinals put a 19 point beat down on a very good #2 seeded Tennessee Volunteers squad lead by senior guards Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith to advance to the Elite 8. The Cardinals defense smothered the Tennessee star guard Chris Lofton the whole game making his shots very difficult. Lofton wasn't even a factor in the fist half. He scored the majority of his 15 points in the second half and most of his points off of free throws. Way to go defense!!!

Now on the Louisville squad the Cardinals had 5 players in double digits in points and one other man just missing double digits with 9 points. The cardinals were lead by their Sophomore forward Earl Clark who finished the game with a double double 17 points and 12 rebounds. Louisville's Senior center David Padgett is the leader and spark plug that I believe keeps that team rolling. Padgett finished with 10 points, 8 Rebound, 3 assists and a lot of hustle. All in all the Louisville Cardinals looked great last night and they are a very hot team right now with a Hall of Fame head coach in Rich Pitino navigating that ship. That has to be scary for teams that have to play them right now.

OK I have to confess, the Louisville Cardinals are now destined to battle the squad I've predicted to win the National Championship tomorrow night in the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Elite 8 and now I'm going to be put in a bitter sweet situation both ways. My confession is this; As much as I want my prediction for the Tar Heels to win the National Championship this year to come true, I want the Louisville Cardinals to beat them tomorrow night even more. Wow, what an oxymoron that is. The bitter sweet part about it all is that the Tar Heels are still in the tournament as I predicted but my Louisville Cardinals have made it further than I thought they would and now are putting me in a predicament. I still want the Tar Heels to win it all but then again I also want the Louisville Cardinals to win it all now that they have made it this far. What am I to do? Root for the Tar Heels or root for my favorite squad the Cardinals. What a catch 22 I'm in! Stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Well, let me put it this way. I guess I'll just have come to the acceptance that it will be OK with either the Tar Heels or Cardinals winning the National Championship this year. I'll just have to make my mind up with that so I'll be OK with whoever wins tomorrow night. That will allow me to enjoy the game better. I'm sure I will probably root for my Cardinals a little more though. Who wouldn't? Now if neither one of them win it all then that will be a real drag. I just do not see that happening though. I'm confident that either the Tar Heels or Cardinals will pull through. Let me make another quick prediction for you right now. I'm going to say this; Whoever wins the game between the Tar Heels and the Cardinals tomorrow night, Will win the National Championship this year, hands down. Enough said!!!

Oh and one more thing I think is really cool. If your staying up the Woman's NCAA tournament take a guess what two squads are playing each other in their Sweet 16? That's right the North Carolina Tar Heels against the Louisville Cardinals. Isn't the that something? Go Louisville girls!!! Win, win, win!!! I just thought I would throw that in there just in case you didn't know.

OK, enjoy watching the game tomorrow night. Win Tar Heels win, I mean Cardinals, my bad. Lol!!! Oh heck with it, one of you two win.

JIMMY & JEFF!!!

After 5 races into the 2008 Nascar season I guess it's about time for me to say my piece about Nascar. I'm wondering if any of you have seen the duo tandem teammates of the top Nascar and favored to win the championship drivers of Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson much this year? At least I know I haven't! Where are they at? Realistically they are racing this year, I do know that, I'm just being a little sarcastic about not seeing the two drivers much because last year they were all over the Nascar news. This year so far not so much. Why you ask? Is is maybe because they are now teamed up together for Hendrick motorsports? Is it because there are just better drivers this year in the likes of the points leader at the moment Kyle Busch or just behind him, Greg Biffle, Kevin Harvick, and Jeff Burton? Or could it be Jeff Gordon's and Jimmy Johnson's time to be just average drivers rather than the top drivers every year? I don't know, it could even be there cars causing them to not finish races good this year.
I could make guesses and assumptions all day long why JIMMY and JEFF are not at the top this year but the fact is, is they are not.

If that's not enough said about how bad the two drivers are racing this year then let me just say this. Johnson has had 3 of the 5 races on the pole position while GordOn has had one of the other pole positions and haven't either of them won a race yet this year. Johnson has had finishes of 27Th, 2ND, 29TH, 13TH, and 18TH while Gordon hasn't fared much better posting finishes of 39TH, 3RD, 35TH, 5TH, and 11TH. I can say one positive for the both of them though, and that is, at least they are finishing the races and not accumulating DNF's (Did Not Finish). If this coming Sunday's Martinsville race was the start of the chase for the Sprint Cup Championship Jeff Gordon and his teammate Jimmy Johnson would not be in the contention for the championship because as of right now they are on the outside looking in. Jimmy Johnson is ranked 13TH with 201 points behind the leading Kyle Busch and his partner in crime Jeff Gordon is bringing up his rear ranked 14TH with 208 points. To qualify for the Sprint Cup Championship chase the drivers have to be in the top 12 in points and they are not at the moment. Lucky for them the season is still young and there are 31 more races for them to turn it around.

If there is one driver out there that is making a case for the championship chase this year I believe that driver would be the new and approved no not the red # 8 but the green machine #88 of Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is sitting in the 5TH spot in the point standings with 96 behind Kyle Busch and has finished in the top 5 three times in 5 races. Dale Earnhardt Jr. could also make his case for comeback driver of the year at this pace he's on. Last year was the first year he didn't win any races all season. Moving to a new car and ownership may have put the spark back into his career. Way to go Jr!!!

Back to the subject at hand. Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson have owned the Martinsville race track the last 7 races with 6 wins. Jimmy Johnson has won 4 including the last 3 races run and Jeff Gordon has the other 2 so if the Hendrick teammates are planning to turn their seasons around, this weekends race at Martinsville will more than likely be the time. We will see!!!

I do believe that Gordon and Johnson are just too good to not make the Sprint Cup chase. In the end the two of them will be fighting for the Championship this year.

$152.3 MILLION, MILLION, MILLION!!!

Wow, what a lofty price to pay for one man! Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers have come to an 8 year 152.3 million dollar contract yesterday. Miguel, Miguel where does all that money go? Can you believe that? To me that's just crazy and ridiculous to pay anyone that much money especially to just play a fun and enjoyable sport. So lets figure that salary out for a single year why don't we. 152.3 divided by 8 equals, too much damn money. 19.0375 million dollars a year!!! The salary is broke down a little throughout the years but all in all Miguel Cabrera will be making over 19 million dollars a year for 8 years. Miguel Cabrera's newly acquired salary will presently be the 4Th highest in MLB just behind another all star 3RD baseman in Alex Rodriguez's (27.5 million), the Mets newly acquired all star ace pitcher Johan Santana's (22.9 million) and last but not least Boston's slugging left fielder Manny Ramirez's (20 million).

That makes me sick!!! I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to pay all my bills throughout every month while Miguel Cabrera is wondering what fancy cars he will buy and how many states he will have a mansion in. I'm just stoked by it!!! This is just an upside down world we live in. Does anyone else feel the same way I do or differently about MLB's latest Miguel Cabrera mega deal signing? If so I'd like to hear about it one way or the other.

Well I guess lets take a look at why the Detroit Tigers are willing to pay that ridiculous amount of money to their newly acquired all star 3RD baseman. OK, I do have to admit that Miguel Cabrera is one of the best, if not the best young sluggers in baseball. Granted he has put on weight in recent years maybe contributing to him being put on the trading block this winter. He is a very big and talented Venezuelan. He just turned 24 years old this year and is matured well above his peers at the same age when it comes to baseball. Cabrera had a .320 batting average last year with 34 home runs and 119 RBI's with the Florida Marlins and figures to improve on those outstanding numbers this year as long as he doesn't eat so much that he can't move anymore. Most MLB players don't fully mature in baseball until the ripe age of 27 but I believe Miguel is already there at only 24. I still don't think he should get 19 million dollars a year to play baseball though. I don't think any athlete should get paid that crazy amount of money in one year but a lot of players are in many sports and some even more.

In Miguel Cabrera's 5 year stint in the pros he has posted his amazing average career stats as such; His batting average is a .308 with an average 24 home runs a year and 104 Runs batted in. If he keeps that up, those stats will certainly and eventually land Miguel Cabrera into MLB's Hall Of Fame. No question!!! Also he has went from a 7.4 million dollar a year salary for 5 years to now over 19 million dollars a year for 8 years. Is Cabrera worth that much money? You already know my take on that, but what's yours? I do think he should be one of the highest paid players in MLB but just not that much per year. How can a person even spend that much money? I can't even imagine!!!

Miguel Cabrera all eye's will be on you to live up to that 152.3 million dollar contract throughout the years. I know mine will!!!

Don't let us down Miguel!!! Win the Detroit Tigers a World Series, soon, or else!!!

UPSET CENTRAL!!!

So far there has been a few good upsets in the men's NCAA tournament. For starters, San Diego who? San Diego upseters that's who, shot their way past Connecticut to beat the Huskies in the 1ST round. Then came the 2ND round collision with the West Virginia Mountaineers having to tackle a very strong contender in the Duke Blue Devils. Of course the Duke Blue Devils were favored and should have won but the West Virginia Mountaineers had other things in mind. The Mountaineers knocked off the favored Blue Devils in a brawl putting in motion another upset in the men's 2008 NCAA tournament.

The way the Duke Blue Devils played in the 1ST round of the tournament against the 15TH seed Belmont it's no wonder West Virginia was able to upset Duke in the 2ND round. Duke squeaked out a victory against Belmont by one measly point and was highly favored to win the game. It goes to show you that on any given day any team has the ability to defeat a great team given the chance.

Now let me talk about one of the highly favored teams to win the National Championship this year. I'm talking about the UCLA Bruins. Yeah the Bruins were able to stomp a mud hole into their 1ST round contender in Mississippi Valley State and that they should have, but how about their next contender. I wanted so badly to see Texas A&M Shut the door on the UCLA Bruins National Championship hopes last night and give the tournament the biggest upset of its short lifespan. Unfortunately Texas A&M just couldn't finish the Bruins in the end. Texas A&M had plenty of chances to make UCLA shed tears last night but the more talented team prevailed. In all reality the UCLA Bruins should certainly be at home right now watching the rest of the 2008 NCAA tournament on their personal TV'S. I'm sure the Bruins hearts were in their throats most of the game last night.

I just don't see UCLA winning the National Championship this year especially since they have limited offensive power. Their defense has kept them in games and in my opinion has won them games most of the season. That's what did it for them last night because their offense obviously as always wasn't there. I didn't like UCLA to win the National Championship this year and I still don't. Where are all those UCLA riders? Do you think they can still win it all this year after seeing what or should I say what they didn't do last night? I guess don't jump off the wagon yet, UCLA is still in the mix. Barely!...

OK so who is going to be today's upset? The Louisville Cardinals? Or maybe it will be the Texas Longhorns. No I got it, the Memphis Tigers. Hey you know, the Butler Bulldogs could find a way to give the Tennessee Vols a sour taste in their mouths today. Well if there is going to be an upset it's going to have to be one of those 4 teams that goes down in flames because there isn't anyone going to subdue the North Carolina Tar Heels this year. There isn't an upset coming against them. That's a fact!!! Well, OK, at least as long as the man, Tyler Hansbrough doesn't get injured. Let me just go ahead and show you what the news papers will say after the National Championship game is over. The papers will read;

THEIR FOR REAL, THE NORTH CAROLINA TAR HEELS!!!
2008 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!
MVP Tyler Hansbrough!!!

Sounds good, right? Well, At least for me it does, mainly because I've picked them from the beginning of the tournament to win it all, and with that said I just hope they don't let me down. If they do, well, I have a lot of explaining to do but I'm confident they will pull through.

OPENING DAY!!!

1,2,3 strikes your out at the old ball game!!! Opening Day for MLB is upon us. All those baseball players will be pulling up their socks and tying on their cleats. This coming Tuesday March 25TH the Boston Red Sox will battle the Oakland Athletics in that's right, Japan. Boston's ace pitcher Josh Beckett was slated to open the season for the Boston Red Sox in Japan until he went down with back spasms so Boston moved their pitching rotation up and that allowed for the perfect replacement to be pitched by Japan's native (AKA) Daisuke Matsuzaka. In my opinion Daisuke Matsuzaka Should have pitched the opening game in Japan anyways. It's just a perfect scenario for Dice K. that couldn't have worked out any better.

So who is your pick for World Series Champions this year? I know the season hasn't even officially started yet but it's never too soon to make your prediction. Well I'll give you mine. I'm going to have to go with, let's see here now, do I want to pick the New York Mets or the Boston Red Sox? Or maybe I want to go with the San Diego Padres. The Philadelphia Phillies look solid and so does the Milwaukee Brewers. Oh and those always good New York Yankees let me not forget about them. Well after all that said my pick to win the World Series this year is the Detroit Tigers. That's right I said the Detroit Tigers!!!... I just like what the Tigers bring to the table in overall talent this year. They have behind the plate this springs red hot Ivan Rodriguez, slugger Carlos Guillen playing 1ST base, never striking out Placido Polanco at 2ND, ever faithful Edgar Renteria handling SS, the mighty young slugger Miguel Cabrera holding down 3RD base, the hitting pro Magglio Ordonez tracking flies out in right field, the speedster Curtis Granderson in Center and a little less talented Jacque Jones picking up left Field. Oh yeah and the Tigers have the quick bat and home run power of Gary Sheffield in the DH spot.

Now the Detroit Tigers pitching staff doesn't leave much to be desired though. But with their potent offense and their veteran pitching staff they will find ways to win and I mean win a lot of games to become World Series Champions this year. Detroit's pitcher Justin Verlander will have a breakout year and become a true ace on their team. He has good stuff and a high strikeout rate.

So tell me that the Detroit Tigers don't have a very good chance to win it all this year and I'll tell you that you are crazy.

THE TEXAS TRIANGLE!!!

It's referring to the Boston Celtics incredible run through the Lone Star State of Texas. That's right, the Boston Celtics managed to achieve something very rare and sweep the 3 super competitive and playoff bound NBA teams from Texas. THE TEXAS TRIANGLE!!! Back to back to back games!!! Not to forget to mention that they beat them all on the road. It's truly amazing to see what the Boston Celtics are doing this year especially after how bad their team was last year. The Celtics beat the San Antonio Spurs first then jumped over to those once 22 game winning streak Houston Rockets and last but not least squeaked by Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. There again the Boston Celtics are showing the nation that whoever wants to win the NBA Championship this year will have to somehow claw their way through them to win it.

Now the NBA's Western Conference in total is a much more powerful conference. They have stronger teams that will make the playoffs this year in the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Hornets, Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and ending with the Golden State Warriors unless the Denver Nuggets find a way to get on a winning streak themselves to squeak past Golden State to make the playoffs. Let's see the strength of the Eastern Conference. Well there they are those team to beat leading the way Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Cleavland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptures, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ERS, and bringing up the rear is the New Jersey Nets and the Atlanta Hawks. The New Jersey Nets and the Atlanta Hawks are battling for the 8TH and final spot in the playoffs. So as you can see and if you know anything about the NBA the stronger Conference is definitely the Western Conference.

The only team I think has any kind of chance to get past the Boston Celtics to advance to the NBA finals in the Eastern Conference is the Detroit Pistons and that's a slim chance. Now on the other hand in the more dominate Western Conference I like 6 teams to be able to give Boston a run for their money if they advance to the NBA Finals. The Lakers, Hornets, Jazz, Suns, Spurs and Mavericks. All those teams have championship caliber players.

All in all I just don't see any team getting past the 3 stars ( Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen ) that the Boston Celtics have to win the NBA Championship this year. Something we will see soon enough!!!

IT'S ALL OVER!!!

The Boston Celtics put the water on the fire and took the wind out of the Houston Rockets sails last night by blowing out the Rockets by 20 points and did so without one of their star players in Ray Allen because of an injury. The Rockets 22 game winning streak was snapped and it took the best team in the NBA this year to make that happen. 23 just couldn't be and 34 is no more. History making for the Rockets is at the moment over and so they will have to settle with the second longest winning streak in the history of the NBA at 22 games. Even though the Houston Rockets couldn't achieve the 34 games in a row to become #1 in that category they should still be pleased with themselves for playing as well as they have for the past month and a half. It's certainly not easy to win 22 games in a row in any sport, especially the NBA. Great Job Houston Rockets!!!

The Boston Celtics beat the Rockets last night by the extraordinary play of one of the Celtics bench players named Leon Powe who finished with 21 points and 4 rebounds all in just 20 minutes of play. Those were unexpected points from Powe, but needed. Also because of their smothering defense all night. The Celtics held the Rockets to a season low 74 points and shut down the Rockets only star player in Tracy McGrady holding him to one of his lowest scoring nights of the season to just 8 points. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett had their usual way by both scoring at least 20 points to also help lead the way.

Well I'm going to have to make a prediction and this prediction is really a no brainer. As much as I hate to say this because as I told you in my previous posts I'm a Los Angeles Lakers fan but I'm going to predict that barring a season ending injury to one of the 3 main stars (K.Garnett, P.Pierce, R. Allen) the Boston Celtics WILL win the NBA Championship this year. They are just too talented on offense and have the best defense in the NBA to not win it all this year. Not to forget to mention they have a deep and fairly talented bench to rely on. That was proved in the game last night!

If anyone has any thoughts on this and my prediction I would love to know what you think about it.

It's crunch time, the NBA playoffs are drawing near. I love this game!!!

22 AND COUNTING!!!

News flash!!! For those of you that haven't heard yet the number 22 is what the Houston Rockets have done for the past month and a half now. The Rockets have found every way possible to win 22 games in a row. Since January 29th no team that the Rockets have played has been able to find a way to beat them. That is an amazing feat in this day and age of sports. They have become victorious in the past 10 games since they lost their superstar center Yao Ming for the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his left foot on February 24. Before Ming went down with his devastating injury the Houston Rockets then were riding an incredible 12 game winning streak. What is so imaginable now is that the Rockets have continued their winning streak without there superstar Ming. Since Ming went down the Rockets have beaten teams in the likes of the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers and 7 other teams in between.

Unfortunately this Tuesday night the Rockets will be going up against who I believe is their toughest competition they've had to face during their impressive 22 game winning streak. They will be playing Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and the rest of the NBA's best record team the Boston Celtics. The Rockets will have one big thing going for them during this great contest though and that will be their home crowd. That is definitely a plus for the Rockets to continue their winning ways and try to become the first team to win 34 consecutive games in a row surpassing the 1971-1972 Los Angeles Lakers of 33 in a row.

Those Lakers had much better overall talent leading the way for their streak than this now Houston Rockets team. The Lakers had superstars such as one of the best scorers in NBA history in Wilt Chamberlain, Gail Goodrich, and Jerry West. Let's see who the Rockets have leading the way. Well they had the superstar center for 12 of the winning streak games and they still do have one superstar able to play in Tracy McGrady. Now the rest of the supporting cast for the Rockets I would call just all heart and not a whole lot of talent. Rafer Alston, who can shoot 3's well, Shane Battier who I would consider one of the best defensive players in the league right after San Antonio's Bruce Bowen, and the ancient Dikembe Mutombo, which I guess can still grab some rebounds for the Rockets. So as you can see, outside of Tracy McGrady's talent is why I would concider the Rest of the Rockets line-up all heart.

Even though my favorite NBA team is the Los Angeles Lakers I would love to see history made in my lifetime and the Houston Rockets pull off the imaginable 34 games or more in a row. This is something to be seen, go Houston Rockets.

IT'S ALL SET!!!

Well there you have it, the 63 teams for the men's NCAA tournament has been established with the 64TH team going to be whoever wins the play-in game between Mt. St. Mary's and Coppin St. Well what do you think? Do you think the #1 seeds are the right teams that should have been seeded #1? I think they got it right myself. North Carolina, Kansas, Memphis, and UCLA. Those are going to be some tough teams to beat this year. For some reason I feel that this year may be a year that all four #1 seeds make it to the Final 4 with the exceptions of Duke maybe squeaking past UCLA in the Elite 8 to make it into the Final 4 and or Texas pulling out a thriller to knock off Memphis also in the Elite 8 to advance to the Final 4. That's yet to be seen though! North Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina, I think they are the team to beat and the favorite to win it all this year, at least in my opinion.

So who is going to be the Cinderella team this year? Is there even going to be a Cinderella this year? Well my prediction of the team possibly putting on their glass slippers and pulling out the magic to be called the Cinderella this year could only be one team. The team I'm picking is; are you ready for this? American!!! Ha, ha just kidding, American couldn't beat Tennessee if Tennessee's whole team played with one arm tied behind their backs. Really my answer is, no team will be able to live up to being called Cinderella this year. I just don't see that happening this year. But hey, I'm known to be wrong sometimes. I guess we will just have to watch and see to find out the true answer to the possible Cinderella this year. I'm looking forward for the Madness to get started and can't hardly wait to see my NCAA brackets come to life and the teams I've picked to win, win.

Oh yeah, let's not forget about the woman's NCAA tournament. Their seedings are established tomorrow. Fill out a bracket on them too. Those girl are just as talented as the men but just not as strong. They are enjoyable to watch if you really like the game of basketball. Most sports fans just don't keep up with the woman sports as much as they do with the men's sports. That's sad because woman do have some awesome raw talent that's displayed when they play which is hardly never even seen by national viewers. I think we need to start giving the woman more credit when it comes to sports, they deserve it. If you have never watched a woman's NCAA basketball game especially during the March Madness tournament you may want to reconsider your options this year because they are good.

THE DRAFT AMONG DRAFTS!!!

I know it's a little premature to start talking about the NFL but I just can't resist. I know it's only been a month and a half since the New York Giants stunned the world and knocked off those then 18-0 undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. No one's perfect, right? Anyways like I said I just can't resist taking about the NFL especially what is about to take place in 42 days from now. Yeah that's right, it's the ultimate draft, it's the NFL draft. Coming soon to a television near you.

Back to Super Bowl XLII for a moment though. Yes, I do have to admit that I wanted to see the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year primarily because I may not get a chance to see a team go undefeated winning a Super Bowl ever again in my lifetime and more than likely neither will a lot of you reading this. Being that said, deep down inside I also wanted to see Peyton's bother Eli when a Super Bowl also, again primarily because Peyton won his Super Bowl last year allowing the Manning brothers to bring about some history for the NFL. So needless to say, while I was watching the Super Bowl this year I had mixed feelings on who I wanted to win Super Bowl XLII. Now that it's all over I'm pleased on how Super Bowl XLII turned out.

OK back to the NFL draft! The NFL draft is a very crucial and time consuming process. It needs to be! Owners and coaches of each NFL team study tapes of college prospects and religiously go over and over decisions on which college prospect they may want to draft months and months before the NFL draft takes place. The decisions the owners and coaches decide could make or break their teams. Maybe not the first or second year after they draft that college player but in the long run it could be glorious for them or it could be disastrous. The owners and coaches know they need to prepare big time for the up coming draft because, well, the player they draft could either bring rags or riches for them and their franchise.
When Eli Manning was coming out of college, sports analyst's were making the prediction that Eli would become as good a quarterback or better than his brother Peyton. They even said that Eli was a better quarterback coming out of college than Peyton was when he came out of college. Wow, what a prediction they made. Who would have known that Eli would navigate his New York Giants team to a Super Bowl and then win it all in just his 3rd year in the NFL. Not only did the owners and coaches of the New York Giants do their homework studying college prospects they might want to draft in the 2004 draft but they decided to take a quarterback with their first pick and yes the New York Giants had the first pick in the 2004 NFL draft choosing Eli Manning. They put their trust in him to lead their franchise to a Super Bowl Championship. Well as you witnessed this year Eli lived up to what was believed of him. Eli won the New York Giants a Super Bowl. Well with all that said, there you have it, proof that potentially whoever is drafted in the NFL draft could eventually take a team from worst to first.

Those of you NFL fans if you are anything like me I'm sure look forward to seeing which players your NFL team will draft because if you think like I think then your team could potentially go from bad to better or bad to worse depending on the draft pick position and then which player is drafted. As you can see on this blog page, the San Francisco 49ERS are my team. The 49ERS unfortunately have to wait all the way until the 29Th pick in the first round to draft this year and then that draft pick is courtesy of the Indianapolis Colts. The 49ERS had one of the worst records in the NFL last year but because of salary cap problems and trades in the past the 49ERS get a crummy 29the overall 1st round pick (courtesy of the Indianapolis Colts). I hate that!!! That's what happens when you buy Super Bowl wins. Remember all those Championships in the 80's? Also 1 in 1994! Well all that money they threw out finally and eventually caught up with them and they are certainly paying for it now. I keep saying there's always next year but it just doesn't seem like next year ever comes. Well all I can say to you about your team is hope for the best and cross your fingers, toes, eyes, arms, legs, just whatever you can cross in hope's that your teams owner and coaches will pick the right player(s) for your team. I know I'll be doing that while I wait to see who is picked for mine.

Well mark your calendars and don't forget to watch THE DRAFT AMONG DRAFTS. The 2008 NFL Draft!!! THE MADNESS!!!

I'm referring to March Madness for all of those of you that love college basketball. In 3 days the Madness begins to start. The 65 teams get established and the seedings are set in place. The Madness fans soon after start filling out their NCAA brackets and pick the teams they feel will win it all. Some die hard college fans even fill out a woman's NCAA college tournament bracket like me. The #1 seeds play the #16 seeds, #2 seeds play the #15 seeds and so on. Now if you are a college basketball fan then more than likely you have a favorite college team that you hope and pray is good enough to receive a tournament bid. Unfortunately sometimes your favorite team isn't good enough to make the big dance so NCAA stepped in to give those misfit teams that couldn't quite make the dance another chance to still feel like they are winners by giving them the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) while the Big Dance is being played too.

Most people don't even pay much or any attention to the NIT while it's being played because, well, they are the misfit teams. There is something I would love to see though. I would love to watch the Champion of the NIT play the Champion of the NCAA tournament. I predict that would generate some good money and a lot of viewers. Kinda like if the NBA would team up with NCAA and put together an exhibition game representing the NBA's worst record team with the NCAA's basketball champion team. Another thought would be if the NFL would team up with NCAA football and put together an exhibition game at the end of the NFL season that represents the NFL's worst record team against the National Champion of college football. Wouldn't that be something? How many of you would watch that? I'm sure all sports fans would check that out, well at least the first year they put something like that together. Now that may only be a trial basis thing because the NBA and NFL teams may just whoop up on the best college teams in reality but what if it's the other way around. Hum, food for thought, right?

Anyways, not to get off the March Madness subject but I just wanted to throw that in there and get your minds thinking outside the box a little. Well who will when it all this year? Kansas or North Carolina? Duke or Tennessee? UCLA or Memphis? Or Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals or Texas. Maybe you may think it will be none of those teams I just posted. Your the one who will be playing your bracket so you choose. Remember it's one and down though!!! My pick to win it all this year is going to be the North Carolina Tar Heels. Kansas is my runner up though. But I have to give the edge to North Carolina because, well, they have Tyler Hansbrough, enough said. He Will show off during the NCAA tournament that's a fact.

Well pick wisely and just go with whatever your heart tells you to. They say the heart never lies to you, or does it?

FANTASY, FANTASY, FANTASY!!!

Well it's that time again for all you fantasy baseball players. The season has finally come again. It's time to do your live drafts and draft the best players and teams you can. Win, win, win it's all about winning, right?
I play fantasy baseball in free leagues as well as a few paid leagues. Playing in paid leagues adds a little more excitement and strategy to your teams. It also gives you the feeling of kinda really owning your own team and watching what your players can do for you. Being able to draft players the same way you would if you were a real MLB owner and manager is really something. I enjoy it extremely!!!

Now there is a down side to playing fantasy sports and that is you may not be able to draft a very good complete team from top to bottom in which could lead to a very long and drawn out frustrating season because your team is in last place in you league. I've been there and it sucks big time. Especially if you paid for the team that is in last place. But hey, that's just the way it goes sometimes. You will win some and you will lose some, there's no way around that.

Just playing in a fantasy league is all worth it in the end. Trust me!!! I'm about to do another live draft today and I'm excited as always. If you are a big sports guru like I am and you haven't experienced fantasy sports yet then you need to open up you horizon and experience it. Believe me you will love it and continue playing. Not only one individual sport but a variety of different fantasy sports. They are all enjoyable in their own ways. Different fantasy sports bring their own individual excitement. There are Head to Head leagues and Rotisserie leagues both in which are fun to play in but bring different strategies to the table. Especially when you are drafting your teams.

Well I need to get drafting!!!

Wow, I'm just amazed at the raw talent that LeBron James has been displaying this year in the NBA. Koby Bryant has been called Superman throughout the years but I believe that LeBron is about to rip Koby's cape off his back. Superman is an understatement to what LeBron has been doing this year. His stats are off the charts. Lately he has just become ridiculous and has just been on a tear. No one can stop him in any category. I mean No One!!!

Yesterday LeBron Had a triple double and then stated to the camera after the game that he was disappointed in his performance tonight. He said that he could have done better. Can you believe that? Done Better? Has LeBron lost his mind or something or has he just excelled to a level that is unimaginable. LeBron had a triple double, many players in their whole NBA career never have a triple double within their career stats. In my opinion I think LeBron has surpassed koby as the overall best player in the NBA hands down. If Koby is considered Superman then LeBron is Superman x 2. LeBron is certainly enjoyable to watch play the game of basketball.

Another opinion I want to leave you with is this, LeBron James at the end of his glorious career he will be labled as one of the best players that has ever played in the NBA and very possibly the best player that has ever played the game of basketball. Even surpassing one of my favorites, Michael Jordan.

I'm starting this new blog for those of you out there that like talking sports. I'm an ex-athlete myself, not professional or anything like that but I just played a lot of football, basketball and baseball when I was growing up through school. I was a fairly good player in all three sports with baseball being my strongest. Now that I'm older and less flexible, playing sports is becoming a lot harder to do.

Since I'm becoming unable to play sports these days due to getting older and injuries, to offset that, I very much enjoy watching sports on TV. I'm a big fan of the San Fransisco 49er's, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Fransisco Giants teams. The way the 49er's and Giants have been playing these days, I guess you could say I'm a big die hard fan. The 49er's and Giants have had bad teams for many years running now which makes watching them play a drag most of the time. Every fan desires for their teams to win and win all the time. So when they don't, shame on them, right?

Well, there is something else I really enjoy playing, especially since I can't play sports myself. For you big guru sports fans I'm sure you could probably figure out what I'm about to say. Yes, that would be Fantasy Sports. I play pretty much all types of fantasy sports from fantasy baseball to fantasy arena football and everything in between such as regular fantasy football, basketball, Nascar, golf, college football, and college basketball March Madness tournament bracket, both men and women.

The web sites I play these Fantasy Sports on are as listed: CBS sports, ESPN, Sporting News, MLB.com, Nascar.com, and NBA. There are probably more fantasy sites on the Internet out there, but these are the sites I use and they are enough for me and very user friendly. So if you haven't played any fantasy sport yet, check it out. It's fun and challenging. Also if anyone needs some help or advice with any fantasy stuff, don't hesitate to ask. I'll help you if I can.
